Got a few errors again when copying the "AppEx" folder with 1.0.7. I had uninstalled all my drivers, Kies etc., as I was playing around trying to see if I could make TkFileExplorer work with the Wave.

Will try and grab the lastest drivers from Kies and uninstall everything and try again. Have PM’d you the 1.0.7 logfile.

Also one thing I discovered is when you are doing a file copy or fetch, the other tabs etc. and menu options are greyed out. But you can click them anyway. The screen then does a refresh, and the tabs then ungrey and you can still click and do things will the previous operation is still going on. Not sure if this is intended or not.

The box isn’t there Patrick as it’s probably not a default setting in the phpBB administration settings. Most likely you have to either turn it on, or install an addon to allow it to be turned on.

1.0.6 is crashing for my quite majorly. Have pm’d you a log file.

You can make it crash by starting WaveBackup, and not having the phone connected, then click on Explorer. It will bomb out instantly. The other crashes where when it was connected, and I’d be in List Apps. It would work, but then I’d come back to that tab, hit List apps again and it would instantly crash. It’s the same crashing symptom, or just exiting immediatly. No error windows or anything displayed either.

I’m uninstalling .NET 4 currently, then will reinstall .NET 3.5 SP1. Then will test again and see if any difference.

    Oh awesome 🙂

Also would it be possible to enable the column headers to sort on the List Apps page? Right now it seems to default to sorting via original folder name only. Currently they are clickable but don’t do anything yet.

I’m not sure how to get it working, I just know phpBB has this feature.

As you can see, it would be located once activated/installed at the bottom of a topic.

That’s a great idea Patrick. That should protect most from bricking their phones and also allow the super skilled like adfree to play with the advanced and expert features.

That’s interesting on the write protection. But it wouldn’t apply to apps installed on the memory card, since you could access then in Windows itself.

This was the preloaded Asphalt 5 yeah that you were tinkering with?

I’d love to have this feature. There are many legitimate reasons for wanting to write files to the phone. And also to be able to delete folders would be awesome too. I can think of many things I’d strip out of the phone to streamline it.

As for worrying about creating folders and that leading to new ways of hacking apps, PSAS can already create folders on the wave.

I can’t see how this will lead to more advanced methods of spoofing myself, as the key to that is in the DB entries, and these cannot be messed with or you brick your phone. So even if you could create a new folder, you’re not going to be able to then link that folder with the DB entry and subsequent icon that launches the app. That would only happen if someone then made a program that loaded the DB, and sorted/formatted it into an editable entity.

Was hoping Patrick you might have found a way to still keep this as .NET 2 compatible. .NET 4 from what I’ve seen on my computer system leaves so many residue services and other files running even when I’m not running an app that needs them, that I’ve religiously uninstalled .NET 4 if I don’t have any apps needing it.

Looking at adfree’s version of .NET, it occurred to me we are all probably using different versions and thus maybe why we’re getting the randomness factor. I use Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5 SP1 which contains all the latest previous versions of the .NET runtimes (v1, v2, v3 and v3.5). Patrick are you going .NET 4 for good, or is this just a test phase to iron out a few things first?

Testing the new 1.0.4 version I for sure noticed a speed increase of the fetching. However I noticed something else here.

To test the fetching speed, I clicked fetch all. I flew past very quickly and completed fetching all folders. Then I went to do a test copy of "AppEx". And instead of just copying, it proceeded to fetch that directory again. Once it completed this, it started copying. So there’s a double up of the fetching that needs addressing. The file copying seems stable so far and might even be speedier too.

Also oddly on my 8500T phone, the directory listings are not sorted alphabetically. Yet on my 8500 phone they are. So would be nice if you could add some tabs up the top just like in Windows Explorer, so you can sort by name, size or date. After I did a test copy of "AppEx", then hit fetch all again, the listing changed to semi alphabetical, so there’s a randomness to how it’s displaying this. EDIT: Ok I found something here. The first initial listing is not alphabetical, but if you disconnect, reconnect, then hit fetch all, then abort right away, it then arranges the listings into alphabetical.

Another thing, is it possible to hide or remove the extra taskbar entry/window when copying files?

I noticed the new right click "Exclude Memory Card" option. May I suggest also adding a checkbox somewhere, maybe under or near the "Examine Application.xml…" or just anywhere on the visible options at the top of the screen.

And finally just want to mention no errors in copying "AppEx" which I think is the first time I’ve been able to do that with WaveBackup. I did a side by side test too and both sTune and this verson of WaveBackup succeeded in copying the exact same number of files and folders, empty ones as well 😛

It’s worth a shot Patrick. Maybe having .NET 4 runtimes would remove some of the randomness in the failed copies bug.

    I’m running XP SP3 on a P4 3.4EEghz system. The chipset is the 875 series. I have .NET 3.5 SP1 I think installed, not 4.0 however.

I don’t know why it’s different for each of us. It’s possible the phones play a part in this, as we are all probably running various versions & revisions of Bada.

Have upped some error logs for you Patrick. Just tried a test copy using v1.02 of the "AppEx" folder and got quite a few more errors copying files that used to copy ok.

The list apps seems to be working better now. I havn’t had it miss detecting an app yet. The scanning looks a little slower, so maybe guessing it’s benig a bit more thorough which is good.

As for the way sTunes copies files, what if you were to include this option for advanced users only. That way we can choose between the copy blind mode and fetch+copy modes.

Also, it would be nice to have a button that allows you to dump the entire contents of the phone in one click. Again hopefully with the option to blind copy (sTune mode) or fetch+copy.

v1.01 does indeed feel a bit faster.

The app listing seems a little more stable and worked nicely the first time I clicked it. But it still randomly misses detecting apps.

But if I click list apps again, it finds it. It’s not any one particular app it misses. Sometimes it misses several too.

It looks like it now copies empty folders, but still doesn’t copy empty files. Am still using the "AppEx" folder to test.
v1.01 didn’t seem to copy the "SNS_scroll_bottom.png" file either, and this file isn’t an empty file.

Oddly, when I disconnected and did a test copy with sTune, then loaded up WaveBackup again, when I did another test copy, this time it didn’t miss the SNS_scroll_bottom.png file.

Is there anyway to avoid fetching at all when you want to copy a file/folder? How does sTune manage to start copying files right away I wonder.

Secondly, how about the idea of adding a total or description or all files/folders to the copy dialog screen. So in the "AppEx" folder for example, it would say 568 files / 148 folders, and then have a counter against that so you can see it ticking down or up etc.

Good to hear Patrick. Look forward to trying out the next revision. Oh one thing, just a suggestion to change the version number in the about screen to whatever is the naming scheme, so that not all beta versions saying 1.0.0.0

Ah yes, empty files might be the reason there’s an error. WaveBackup won’t copy an empty folder either. It doesn’t pop up with an error message, it just doesn’t copy it… yet 🙂

I do like how WaveBackup show you the date and file/folder details. sTune never did that, so it’s good as we can see the proper details of a file/folder just like Windows Explorer.

I did a test copy of the AppEx folder and got these two errors.

checking the files, they are both 0kb and are empty. I think the copy also missed 5 empty folders as well.
